The F***ing Instructions

We changed the BRN chat to Internet Relay Chat, our IRC chat room name is: #basementradio-net.

Here's exactly how to get into the chat room.

First, to make things easier, sign up for a Ustream account here.

Click on the "Sign Up" link in the upper right hand portion of the ustream site (see picture shown below).

On the Ustream site, fill out the new account portion of the ustream form pictured below and press submit.

After you’ve entered some basic info, created a user name and password, and agreed to the Ustream TOS, go to back to www.BasementRadio.net.

By default, the Chat mode selected is our IRC Chat room. You can also switch to the “Social Stream.” tab. This is a sort of shout box that people can use to post messages to our page with their Facebook or Twitter accounts. But we are focusing on the Chatroom, so back to that.

On the BRN site, you’ll be prompted to enter a user name and password. Enter the user name and password of the Ustream account you created earlier. That's it.

On the BRN page you can also log in to the chat instantly or change your name by typing:

/nick username:password

Do it carefully, if you mess up other users may see your password. Here is an example:

/nick MachoMan:hairy99

During a live broadcast, and if you are logged in rather than an anonymous guest, you will be able to chat with others. Click the "Person" tab to see other users.

Like I said before, our chat room is an IRC Chat room. IRC has many commands. Learn more about IRC commands here:

After you leard a little about Internet Relay Chat (IRC) and find yourself unsatisfied with Ustream’s web chat interface, you can also access BRN’s chat room via your favorite IRC client.. There are many clients out there, so I can’t give instructions for all of them. But basically, you’ll need to create a new network in your client containing one or more of the following servers:

chat1.ustream.tv
chat2.ustream.tv
chat3.ustream.tv
chat4.ustream.tv

The port for all of them is 6667, and they don’t use SSL.

Then you’ll have to login using a Ustream user name and password. Once you’re in, our IRC chat room name is #basementradio-net.

You can also easily access the BRN chat on any smart phone using an IRC App. Enter a ustream chat server name, our room name and your login and password.
